These Are The Songs Frank Ocean Played At His First Shows In Three Years
Ocean covered the Jackson 5 and ended with “Nikes” at the NorthSide and Parklife festivals this weekend.
Frank Ocean made his long-awaited return to the stage this weekend, performing headline sets at Denmark's NorthSide festival and Parklife in Manchester, U.K.
In the three years since he last performed, Ocean has released both Blonde and Endless and songs from both made it into the festival setlists. Ocean opened both shows with Blonde tracks, walking on to a recording of "Pretty Sweet" before starting with "Solo." Meanwhile "Nikes" closed the show on both nights.
Ocean's stage set-up included wall of speakers, similar to those in Tom Sachs's Toyan’s art installation from Ocean's Endless livestream, and a disco ball in the middle of the stage. He covered The Jackson 5's 1971 single "Never Can Say Goodbye" at both festivals and also played his 2017 tracks "Chanel," "Biking," and "Lens."
The Parklife set on Sunday was largely the same as NorthSide but did not include "Pyramids" or "Hublots," possibly down to Ocean arriving on stage 30 minutes later than scheduled. Director Spike Jonze was spotted in the crowd in Manchester.
