Brasstracks’s “XO TOUR Llif3” Cover Is A Top 10 Marching Anthem
The duo who produced “No Problem” have reinterpreted another massive rap tune.
Brasstracks is Ivan Jackson and Conor Rayne, a Brooklyn-based duo that started remixing tracks into marching anthems on Soundcloud and eventually glowed up to production on Chance The Rapper's Grammy-winning single "No Problem." They've returned to their viral roots with a cover of Lil Uzi Vert's hit "XO TOUR Llif3," premiering today on The FADER. TM88's original beat is a dynamic, emotional rollercoaster, a pop punk-tinged concoction that grants a strange catharsis to shouting "ALL MY FRIENDS ARE DEAD" when the chorus hits. This unusual and compelling sound is still the motor for Brasstracks's jazzy horns and mixture of live and programmed percussions, a celebration of energy which offers both new perspectives on the original and a unique pleasure all its own.
"When we heard "XO Tour LIif3" by Lil Uzi Vert for the first time, we were really excited," Brasstracks told The FADER over email. "We're always looking for new popular songs that we can flip with some horns and drums, and this one was perfect. The melody is clever but the beat goes HARD. We were worried because there are already so many remixes, so it felt like we had our hands full with this one, but we think we did something unique and fun with this. At the end of the day, we just hope everyone likes it and we hope everyone can dance to it."
