One teenager was arrested after five people had corrosive substances thrown in their faces during a string of attacks in London, BBC News reports.
Police confirmed that two men carried out the attacks in the Hackney, Islington, and Stoke Newington areas of the city on Thursday night, July 13. One victim's injuries are described as "life-changing." The attacks were linked and police are questioning the teenager at an east London police station on suspicion of robbery and causing grievous bodily harm.
The attacks began at 22:25 local time on Hackney Road in north-east London and ended 90 minutes later. A 32-year-old man was left with facial injuries and had his moped stolen after the suspects attacked him. One of the men took his vehicle and the other drove away on the moped they arrived on.
These latest attacks reflect a rising use of acid and other corrosive substances in attacks across London. In 2016 incidents of this nature were reported 458 times, compared to 261 in 2015, according to Met Police figures.
