Carly Rae Jepsen On Her New Album: “Right Now, It’s Just About Being A Weird Little Experiment”
She’s been listening to Big Thief and Ariel Pink while recording the follow up to 2015’s Emotion.
Carly Rae Jepsen has given an update on her next album, saying she is experimenting with different sounds as she writes the follow up to 2015's Emotion. Back in May Jepsen tweeted that she had written 50 songs for her new record.
Speaking to Elite Daily, Jepsen said she has been working with producer Patrik Berger on some tracks. "I can still... beat what I've got and experiment in different places without any of the pressure," she said of the new music. "I'm really looking forward to getting it out there soon. Right now, it's just about being a weird little experiment."
Asked what she's listening to at the moment, the Canadian artist said he tastes are a little more "somber" than the music she makes. "I've kind of had a little darker taste for moodier music that I listen to. Probably to offset stuff I write since it's more joyful, happier things. But, there's this song called “Paul” by Big Thief that I'm really into and “Baby” by Ariel Pink. I think it's fantastic and so sexy."
In 2016 Jepsen released Emotion B-Sides. Her latest single "Cut To The Feeling" was released in May of this year as part of the Trolls movie soundtrack.
