Madonna sought an emergency court order to block the auction of a number of her personal items, including a 1995 jail letter from then-boyfriend Tupac, Billboard reports.
A Manhattan state Supreme Court judge has stopped an auction scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 19, in which personal items including a pair of worn underwear and a hairbrush containing her hair were due to be bid on. Gotta Have It! Collectibles has pulled 22 items from its auction in total.
Madonna is quoted as saying the auction is "outrageous and grossly offensive" and that she was "shocked to learn" of the plan. She says a "former friend" is behind the sale and that she was unaware some items were no longer in her possession.
An auction house spokesman told the New York Post the allegations will be "challenged and refuted" in court.
The handwritten letter from Tupac was expected to be sold for more than $100,000. In it the late rapper reportedly confessed to ending his relationship with Madonna because she is white and he was concerned how that would affect his image.
