Scottie Beam Allegedly Assaulted By A Security Guard At New York Venue Knockdown Center
“We are aware of the situation and are actively trying to get to the bottom of it,” Knockdown Center co-director Tyler Myers told The FADER.
Former Hot 97 digital producer, and current co-host of the Black Girl Podcast, Scottie Beam says she was assaulted by a security guard on Thursday night while attending a show at Queens's Knockdown Center venue.
"Yesterday,I was punched, kicked & pushed by a security guard at @knockdowncenter for simply not moving exactly where he wanted me to move," Beam wrote on Twitter. "For those asking, no I did not raise my voice, I did not touch this man, I just tried to call someone on my phone."
She continued, "My face is swollen &my knee is swollen, I've asked for the mans name and the other security guards wouldn't tell me at the @knockdowncenter...I was told by witnesses that he & the security guard laughed about it after assaulting me."
"The Security Guard company is called Gorilla Force; they won't give me his real name," Beam told The FADER over email. "The owner of the company claims he contracted the guard under a nickname "Black" and has no info about him. Abuse by security guards is normalized and shouldn't be. Please speak out."
Reached by phone on Friday afternoon, Knockdown Center co-director Tyler Myers told The FADER that they were actively investigating the situation.
"We are aware of the situation and are actively trying to get to the bottom of it," he said. "It's something that we take very seriously and are working at light speed to figure this out."
