Radiator Hospital Debuts “Dance Number,” The Lead Single From Play The Songs You Like
It’s a “feeling bad while also feeling good” song.
According to Sam Cook-Parrott, the frontman and founder of Radiator Hospital, "Dance Number" is "another in the canon of Radiator Hospital 'feeling bad while also feeling good' songs." Listening to couplets like "In between the notes in your favorite song/ You try and figure where it went wrong," it's easy to see what he's getting at. These lyrics — delivered in Cook-Parrott's nasally, vulnerable-sounding tone over a curiously sunny pop-punk melody — offer meta-commentary about the way we use music to help us cope, even when everything seems to be falling completely apart.
"On the surface it's a portrait of a sad lonely moment," Cook-Parrott said of "Dance Number," which is our first taste of the Philadelphia rock crew's new full-length, Play The Songs You Like. "Ultimately though it's about trying to go through life with an open heart and mind in a world that seems bleaker every day." Watch the video above.
Play The Songs You Like drops October 20 on Salinas Records.
