Dave Chappelle Won An Emmy Award For His Guest Appearance On SNL
Melissa McCarthy also earned an award for hosting the late night show.
Dave Chappelle has earned the first Emmy Award of his career for his guest role as host of Saturday Night Live's post-election episode, Hollywood Reporter points out. Melissa McCarthy also won an award for hosting the May 13 episode of the show, during which she portrayed former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. The winners were announced at the Creative Arts Awards in Los Angles on Sunday night.
During his hosting debut on the November 12 episode, Chappelle addressed Trump's victory in the presidential election and what it meant for the country going forward. "I didn't know that Donald Trump was gonna win the election, but I did suspect it," he said during his opening monologue, later saying that he was going to "give him a chance."
In May, Chappelle said he regretted making that statement while onstage in New York City. "I was the first guy on TV to say ‘Give Trump a chance,’" he said. "I fucked up. Sorry."
The comedian has released two hour-long Netflix specials earlier this year, while another special is still on the way, per his contract with the streaming movie and TV site. Chappelle recently held down a month-long residency at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, where he was joined by special guests, including Chance The Rapper, Donald Glover, Erykah Badu, and more.
