The Emmy Awards took place on Sunday night and was the scene of a few historic moments in television history. However, the ceremony was also an unfortunate reminder of Hollywood's tendency to blur the lines between entertainment and politics.
Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer made a cameo at the ceremony in a bit with host Stephen Colbert. In the gag, the host joked about presenting to the largest Emmys audience ever. He then brought out Spicer, behind a White House-style lectern, to echo the speech he gave about the number of people who watched Donald Trump's inauguration in January.
The reaction from the celebrities in the room was one of shock and amusement. However, at home, Twitter users were notably more outraged and were quick to note their bemusement at the stunt. A picture of James Corden cosying up to Spicer only made matters worse. Read on for a selection of tweets about Spicer's Emmys cameo.
There's nothing funny about the damage he assisted in planning, defended, & celebrated when he worked in The White House. https://t.co/j4Hr8l3Lg9

one of those things, like the Fallon interview, that shows this is all a joke for people who are not vulnerable to this reign of terror https://t.co/zj2K1YPANN

.@seanspicer can normalize himself in good fun, but he still passionately advocated against human rights, health care, & American values

I'm not ready to laugh "with" Sean Spicer. I think he is an evil, opportunistic liar that hurt our country.

Sean Spicer sold his soul to work for Trump and repeatedly lied from the podium. Hilarious!

The only acceptable reason to invite Sean Spicer on stage is to have a trap door open up under him
