San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz continues to advocate for Puerto Rico
Even as Trump calls her names and whines on Twitter.
As relief efforts continue, Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz continues to use her platform to beg for more federal aid to be sent to Puerto Rico, which is facing a humanitarian crisis after Hurricane Maria. At 4 a.m. this morning, the President of the United States of America (which includes Puerto Rico) responded to Yulín Cruz's public pleas by... describing her efforts to get aid as nasty and implying she was lazy.
The immediate response to Trump was of course not too kind; It is no secret that the U.S. government is not doing enough to provide aid to Puerto Rico, which is putting hundreds of thousands of lives at risk.
Yulín Cruz directly responded to Trump's tweets on AM Joy, and unsurprisingly, surpassed the president in both grace and character.
"We have one goal, to save lives," said Yulín Cruz. "This is a time when everyone shows their true colors. I have no time for distractions, all I have time for is for people to move forward, and get help. What kind of a Puerto Rican would I be, what kind of human would I be, if I knew of other Puerto Rican Mayors whose cities are getting no water and no food, and I looked the other way while my city is getting taken care of... This isn't about me, this is about lives that are being lost if things do not get done properly real quickly."
