Watch Sturgill Simpson call Trump “a fascist fucking pig”
The country music singer protested the Country Music Awards on the event’s doorstep.
As the Country Music Awards progressed inside the Bridgestone Arena, country music singer Sturgill Simpson started a livestream on Facebook outside of the venue. The move was a bit of a follow up to last year when Simpson critiqued the mainstream country industry and the awards show for their awarding of the Merle Haggard Spirit Award.
This year though, Simpson gave a mock CMA acceptance speech and did a fan prompted Q&A answering questions like Kanye or Drake (his answer: "Kanye, all fucking day.") In his speech though he addressed quite a few commonly held conservative ideas. He also does some busking, performing some of his own music to requests.
In the midsts of answering questions, Simpson is asked about his thoughts on Trump. The singer lets loose: "He's a fascist fucking pig," he said. "And I'm not afraid to say that because at this point, anybody that's still supporting that guy can't be anything, in my mind, other than an ignorant fucking bigot."
"Anybody that is surprised to hear me say that, that's going to unfollow me or stop listening to my records, they probably weren't listening that closely any way," he continued.
Read the mock speech in its entirety below.
"Nobody needs a machine gun, coming from a guy who owns a few guns. Gay people should have the right to be happy and live their life any way they want to get married to anyone they want to without fear of getting dragged down the road behind a pick up truck. black people are probably getting shot in the streets and being enslaved by the industrial prison complex and hegemony and fasciscm is alive and well in Nashville, Tennessee. Thank you very much."
