Watch Erykah Badu and The Roots cover Fela Kuti

Earlier this month Erykah Badu curated the fourth installment in a series of Fela Kuti box sets featuring seven of the Afrobeat pioneer's albums. Last night, December 20, she was the musical guest on The Tonight Show where she covered a Fela song alongside The Roots. Badu stepped onto the stage and began performing "On & On," from her 1997 album Baduizm before the song subsided and moved into Fela Kuti’s “Sorrow Tears and Blood.” You can see the whole performance above.

Badu celebrated 20 years of Baduizm earlier this year and also took a knee in support of Colin Kaepernick at a recent awards ceremony.
