Lorde wore a feminist essay on her dress at the 2018 Grammys

Lorde made a subtle but powerful statement with her outfit at the 2018 Grammy Awards in New York City on Sunday night. The New Zealand singer, who's nominated for Album of the Year at the event, wore a segment from Jenny Holzer's “Inflammatory Essays," a series of pieces written between 1979 and 1982 and pasted as posters in public places in New York City, on the back of her dress. "Rejoice! Our times are intolerable," the essay reads. "Take courage for the worst is a harbinger of the best. Only dire circumstances can precipitate the overthrow of oppressors."
