Katy Perry is no stranger to criticism, but normally it's aimed in the direction of her music. Right now, she has become the center of attention for another, perhaps more deserving reason.
On April 14, the pop star went into space as part of an all-female crew organized by Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin company. Alongside Gayle King, NASA scientist Aisha Bowe, Bezos' girlfriend Lauren Sánchez, and others, Perry went up more than 100km above Earth, crossing the boundary of space and briefly experiencing weightlessness. According to reports, Perry sang "What A Wonderful World" and briefly showed off the setlist for her upcoming Lifetimes tour. Sorry aliens, now you know she does "Firework" for an encore.

After landing back on Earth, Perry said she felt "super connected to life" and "so connected to love." Her critics, however, had some other words in mind.
Responding to a PopCrave tweet about Perry’s trip, the Wendy’s corporate account tweeted, “Can we send her back.” So far, so bored social media manager.

Things got a little spicier, however, when Kesha posted a picture of herself smiling and clutching a Wendy's cup. (Both artists started out as protégés of Dr. Luke, and Perry faced further criticism when she returned to the producer for her 2024 album, 143.)

Emily Ratajkowski was also unimpressed by what she saw, posting a TikTok in which she said: "Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space. For what? What was the marketing there?" That followed actor Olivia Munn openly dissing the Blue Origin mission as "gluttonous" ahead of its launch, and Olivia Wilde pointing out the vast cost of the mission. "Billion dollars bought some good means I guess," Wilde wrote in an Instagram story.
Perry, so far, hasn't responded to any of the comments. And Wilde is right — the launch did bring some good memes. Take a look at some of the best, below.
