A statue honoring David Bowie will be unveiled in the English village of Aylesbury next Sunday, March 25, BBC reports. The town is thought to be the location of the debut of Bowie's iconic Ziggy Stardust persona, at a club called Friars. In addition to the statue, the village has begun a petition to rename itself "Aylesbowie."
The statue is called "Earthly Messenger," and a miniature version has already been revealed. Created by Andrew Sinclair, it features several different Bowie personas, including Ziggy. It's the result of villager David Stopps's fundraiser, which generated more than £100,000 to install the statue. Stopps is also behind the petition to change the town's name.
A spokesperson for the town hinted that it might happen temporarily, saying "It's an interesting idea and perhaps on 25 March we could all think 'Aylesbowie' - just for one day!"
