Taylor Swift voices support for March For Our Lives in rare political statement
She joins a long list of celebrities supporting the march.
Taylor Swift is famously silent on political issue, saying in 2012, “I don’t talk about politics because it might influence other people.” Throughout the 2016 election cycle, critics attempted to pull a side out of the country-turned-pop star; those efforts resulted in a single opinion on the day of the election: "Go out and vote," written as the caption of an Instagram post which has since been deleted. She voiced support for the Women's March in 2017 in a tweet after it was already over. That tweet has since been deleted as well.
On Friday, she made a rare political declaration, voicing support for the March For Our Lives, which takes place across the country (and globe) tomorrow, March 24.
"No one should have to go to school in fear of gun violence," she wrote on Instagram. "Or to a nightclub. Or to a concert. Or to a movie theater. Or to their place of worship. I’ve made a donation to show my support for the students, for the March For Our Lives campaign, for everyone affected by these tragedies, and to support gun reform. I’m so moved by the Parkland High School students, faculty, by all families and friends of victims who have spoken out, trying to prevent this from happening again."
She joins a long line of active celebrities who have already pledged support and money for the cause, including Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus, who will attend the March tomorrow with the Parkland teenagers, Oprah Winfrey, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Garth Brooks, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, and many more.
