Rihanna tweets support for robbed Howard students
“💪🏿🙌🏿”
Earlier this week, news broke that Tyrone Hankerson Jr., a senior at Howard University, had embezzled $429,000 from the school's financial aid, joining a slew of other, non-student workers for a total of $1 million stolen from students. Hankerson quickly became an iconic meme, thrilling the internet with his decision to not only publicly flaunt the wealth he accrued in his time at the financial aid office, but to meticulously document it as well, resulting in a handful of excellent photographs now forever on view to inspire Twitter.
Still, the students he actually stole from were rightfully upset, and on Thursday evening, a group took the financial aid offices to protest, at one point breaking out in a chorus of Rihanna's "Bitch Better Have My Money," which did not go unnoticed by the patron saint of getting what's yours. While historically on the side of the scammers, in this case Rihanna appears to have sided with the other, robbed students. In a tweet sent late Thursday night, she appeared to show support for the students, quoting the video of their singing with an emoji set implying their strength: "💪🏿🙌🏿"
For what it's worth, Hankerson apologized.
