Watch Danai Gurira and Daniel Kaluuya argue about Wakanda’s future in a deleted Black Panther scene
Gurira returns in Avengers: Infinity War.
On Tuesday, Ryan Coogler shared a deleted scene from Black Panther with USA Today. The clip, seen above, shows Okoye (Danai Gurira) and W'Kabi (Daniel Kaluuya) having an argument about W'Kabi's apparent support of Killmonger during a battle scene. The scene, Coogler reveals in a brief interview before it, was intended to clarify their relationship within the story.
"It was [the scene's] intention for the audience to really realize that Okoye and W’Kabi were husband and wife," Coogler explains. So they had a confrontation or argument about where Wakanda was going to go after T’Challa's death. In the tribal council room, it was a scene with incredible performances from Danai Gurira and Daniel Kaluuya, but it just didn't work in the film. But I'm really excited for folks to see it anyway."
Black Panther broke box office records with its February release. Gurira's Okoye and Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa both return in Avengers: Infinity War, which opened on Friday.
