Twitter had a “bug,” so you need to change your password right now
The company says an error left the passwords of its users vulnerable.
Twitter is encouraging all of its users to change their passwords after a "bug" caused user logins to be stored in plain text on the company's internal computer system.
The error resulted in Twitter passwords being stored unconcealed, meaning Twitter employees potentially had access to them. However, the company said in its statement that there were no indications that any user information was compromised.
Twitter did not say how many users were affected, but a source told Reuters that number is "substantial" and the users have been exposed for "several months."
Still, Twitter is encouraging everyone to update their passwords from an “abundance of caution.”
