This Bratz doll fashion account is my obsession
If you think Bratz dolls and fashion aren’t linked, think again.
If there's one thing I've learned in life, it's that there's a subculture for everything. There's the cute, the bizarre, and the transcendent. The subculture of people who style Bratz dolls is straight-up a combination of all three.
Bratz dolls — with their insane proportions and inherent attitude that had Barbie shaking in her Dream House — are a cultural phenomenon distinctly tied to the glitter an excess of the the early-00s. Fans of the dolls lived through the violently boring reign of minimalist norm-core, preserving the dolls' over-the-top essence through Instagram accounts that design Bratz-sized clothing which reflect today's trends, and needless to say, it's important work.
One of these Bratz fashion accounts, @Bratzieb, caught my attention when it collaborated with a fellow Bratz fashion account on a shoot inspired by fetish lingerie designer and FADER favorite Creeypyyeha. I love this extremely niche community! The attention to detail, from the miniaturizing of all of Yeha's designs and the near-identical poses, were beautifully executed, and just like that, I was an immediate fan.
@Bratzeib is style-focused, recreating fashion campaigns from the likes Calvin Klein and Versace, to editorializing its own shoots, all with the signature cheeky Bratz flair. "These Bitches washed up and ain't no soap involved," reads a caption of a photo in which a Bratz doll lies seductively on a tangle of netting and seashells, sporting an iridescent fit like a runway mermaid.
Naturally, @Bratizieb also finds inspiration in the style pioneers of music. Aaliyah's legendary glittering bikini top and choker get-up from the "Try Again" music video gets Bratz-ified to perfection, while Rihanna's iHeartRadio Music Awards look from 2014 gets a new spin, and makes me realize that I would drop a large sum of money for an official Rihanna Bratz doll. Corporate America — hear my plea!
