Watch A$AP Rocky’s performance art piece “Lab Rat”
Here’s what you missed at Sotheby’s last night.
A$AP Rocky premiered "Lab Rat" at Sotheby's in New York City this Sunday, a performance art piece in which he appeared in a "lab" for nearly two hours, being assisted by workers who treated him as a, as implied, a lab rat. High Snobiety reports that the piece saw Rocky taking on "a series of tasks, including eating hot peppers," as well as talking to the crowd "many things, including loss and the challenge of recording new music." He then unveiled the cover art for his upcoming album Testing and announced that it was ready for release, which he later tweeted.
Rocky partnered with Calvin Klein for the event, dressing in a full jumpsuit from Calvin Klein’s 205W39NYC, their newly renamed luxury ready-to-wear collection by Raf Simons.
Earlier this month, Rocky teamed up with Sotheby's for a conversation with artist Ai Weiwei, available now online. "Lab Rat" was live-streamed on YouTube, a version of which can be seen below.
