Anthony Ferraro records music as Astronauts, etc., a thoughtful, gentle project whose soul-plucking instrumentation will put you right in your feelings. Such is the case with "The Border," the first single off the forthcoming Living In Symbol album, out July 27 on Company Records. The song's warm and foreboding production comes courtesy of Toro y Moi, with whom Ferraro often tours as a keyboardist.
It's this particular lyric, sung in a deadpan delivery, that hit me the hardest: "The border is vanishing at the corners/ I must be getting warmer/ I approach the door then it moves farther from me."
"Ideas are like drugs. You can leave them behind but their residue stays with you," says Ferraro. "I hope this song captures the modern strangeness of how it feels to be uncertain about what you actually believe. I’ve come to the conclusion that I have no idea." I felt that.
