Last fall, DJ Osh Kosh’s FADER Mix put me on to LightSkinKeisha’s “Weather,” and it’s since become the one song I’ve been waiting to play as soon as the weather gets nice. It’s a damn hit — from the booming-ass beat, to Keisha’s intro pulled from one of her own Instagram videos, to her unabashedly rapping about acting up in the summertime. Clocking in at a jam-packed 1:54, it’s left fans of the track hoping for more from the actress and comedian-turned-rapper.
Thankfully, the past month has delivered just that. Premiering today on The FADER is the video for one of her newest tracks, “Treadmill,” a similarly catchy ladies-turn-TF-up anthem about all the ways you can work it on the treadmill, and what’ll come from it. "The inspiration for the song was to motivate women to get in the gym and have fun while being there,” LightSkinKeisha said of the video over email. “Also, it's inspiration to run it up, whether it be a bag or a damn treadmill (lmao). I just want girls to accomplish their body goals, and feel good while trying to get it right." The video also features a cameo from comedian DC Young Fly.
She also shared a few words about her upcoming debut project Honey Period: “You can expect a lot of energy and nothing but some good jams! I’m full of life, and honey, that’s what I’m ‘bout to give y’all on my first project. Expect nothing but the best. I’m new to the game, and I’m bout to bring the fun into it — but the Atlanta way! I’m the Queen of Atlanta and I’m bout to represent for all my girls from Atlanta. I can’t wait ’til y’all hear it!"
