Somehow, Detroit's rap scene is both thriving and still slept on. While Tee Grizzley has become the city's most recent street-certified star, a new class of rappers has emerged to inject new energy into its ever-expanding underground. FMB DZ, who broke out in 2017 with tapes like Washington DZ and I Ain't Gonna Lie , is among the most talented, combining clever wordplay, and a natural ear for beats, with sobering storytelling.
"Fast Money," a new song from his upcoming In My Bag project, finds DZ coasting over a transcendent beat, courtesy of Helluva and Antt Beatz. On the hook, he leans all the way into the snaps and claps of the percussion. "I was reaching to be different and step outside my bag a lil bit with the chorus of “Fast Money,”' he told The FADER over email. Listen to "Fast Money" below and preorder In My Bag, due out July 27, here.
