Beyoncé and JAY-Z paid special tribute to Aretha Franklin on Monday night amid reports the iconic singer is "gravely ill." The On The Run II tour arrived in Detroit, Franklin's home, where Beyoncé began the performance by saying “This show is dedicated to Aretha Franklin,” she says. “We love you and thank you.”
The Detroit Free Press reports that Beyoncé also thanked the 76-year-old for her “beautiful music.” Warm-up act DJ Khaled also played "Respect" in his set before the headliners arrived.
Soul icon Franklin's family told Detroit news station WDIV Local 4 about her condition on Monday. News anchor Evrod Cassimy said, adding that the family is asking them not to release details of her illness.
