Maverick Sabre returns with new single “Drifting”
Watch the dramatic new visual from the Irish soul singer.
Maverick Sabre, the old-school soul singer who broke through in 2012 with his debut album Lonely Are The Brave, has been away for little while. In that time he's worked with Jorja Smith on her debut album and begun recording his third record, due in spring 2019. Today, via The FADER, he's premiering new song "Drifting" and a theatrical video to go alongside it.
The self-produced song will be instantly familiar to Sabre's fans, his gravelly vocals bringing a gritty edge to an uplifting falsetto chorus. The video, meanwhile, captures youth and young manhood in a small Irish town.
Speaking to The FADER via email, Sabre said: “I wrote 'Drifting' to numerous different visuals that I was inspired by from Kendrick Lamar's Kahlil Joseph documentary through to La Haine. That's why it's has this cinematic feel within the music before we even created the film.
"I was brought up in Ireland and Irish cinema has always grabbed me, so we wanted to carry that on through and make sure it was captured as beautifully as possible. The aim is to tell as many different untold Irish stories within a grander film. 'Drifting' is scene one.”
