Tha Carter V, the twelfth studio album from Lil Wayne, will be released on September 27 at midnight, the rapper revealed on Tuesday. The announcement came a few hours after Wayne tweeted that he'd be sharing something with fans at 5 p.m. Right on schedule, he posted a link to a website with a countdown , and an announcement video.
First announced in 2012, Tha Carter V has been delayed for over half a decade thanks to legal strife between Wayne and Birdman, CEO of Cash Money Records. After years of bitter legal and in-person confrontations, this summer the two men came to an agreement in court, and Wayne was released from his contract with Cash Money. The feud was publicy quashed onstage at the 2018 Lil Weeyzana Festival when Birdman appeared onstage with Wayne and apologized.
Soon after, Wayne shared Tha Carter V's cover art. Fans speculated a surprise release day of September 21, but the drop never happened.
