Bandcamp will donate its share of profits today to the Voting Rights Project
The music service is donating “100% of our share of the proceeds” ahead of the midterm elections.
Bandcamp, the music distribution website, is known for its frequent fundraising drives. On Friday, September 28, the site will be donating all of its share of the profits from sales of music to the Voting Rights Project. The organization is described by Bandcamp as "a project led by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to advance and protect the right to vote and ensure that right is afforded equally to all." Artists and labels are also able to send their own shares to Project.
The press release also contains an encouragement for young people to vote int he upcoming 2018 midterms. "The unfortunate fact is that most people don’t vote in midterm elections: only 17% of young people voted in the 2014 midterms, and 40% of eligible voters overall." The post ends with a plea to register to vote: it’s not hyperbole to say that our future depends on it.
