Janelle Monáe has joined a Harriet Tubman movie

She’ll take an unannounced role in the film.

Janelle Monáe will appear in an upcoming biopic based on the life of slavery abolitionist Harriet Tubman, Variety reports. The film, titled Harriet, stars Cynthia Erivo as Tubman, and will also feature Leslie Odom Jr., Joe Alwyn, Jennifer Nettles, Clarke Peters, and more. Kasi Lemmons (Eve's Bayou) will direct her script co-written with Gregory Allen Howard.

Monáe's move to Hollywood will also include a voice and original music for the upcoming animated feature UglyDolls, and a role in Robert Zemeckis’s Welcome to Marwen starring Steve Carrell. Janelle Monáe's album Dirty Computer was released in April.
