Chance the Rapper plays a Chicagoist reporter in a tongue-in-cheek video explaining Chicago's convoluted aldermanic system. The 15-minute clip, which also stars comedian Hannibal Buress, can be seen above.
Aldermanic elections in Chicago will take place in February 2019. With that in mind, Chance's video sees the rapper interviewing candidates and voters. Buress plays a 75-year-old Alderman named Al Duram.
The video shines a light on the people elected to govern each of Chicago's 50 wards, specifically highlighting the restrictions put on young black people being elected. Chance's reporter character points out "that shit sounds racist" when it is pointed out that felons and anyone in debt cannot run for election.
Chance bought Chicagoist in a deal made public in July. On Friday, November 30, he dropped new songs "My Own Thing" and "The Man Who Has Everything."
