In Red Bull Music's docuseries Inspire The Night, progress and nightlife collide as each episode takes a deep dive into the creatives, movements and safer spaces of dancefloors across the globe. In the latest season's first episode, Afro-Brazillian collective Batekoo breaks down the barriers or race and gender politics, creating a weekly party in both Rio de Janeiro and Saõ Paulo that serve some of the country's most marginalized.
"The ghetto youth have no economic or social condition, but they have the power to create their own culture," said activist and artist Leci Brandão early on in the episode. Navigating homophobia, transphobia, racism, and fatphobia through music, movement and community, Batekoo creates more than a dream place to party.
