Nominees for the 2019 Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday and there was a historic nod for Wakanda in among the pack.
Black Panther became the first superhero movie ever to be nominated in the Best Picture category. The Marvel movie, which stars Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan among others, is one of eight movies nominated in the category. It faces competition from Roma, The Favourite, Green Book, Bohemian Rhapsody, Blackkklansman, A Star Is Born, and Vice.
The Ryan Coogler-directed movie also earned nominations for Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Production Design, Costume Design (Ruth Carter), Original Song (“All the Stars”) and Original Score (Ludwig Goransson).
