“Unique challenges” cause Amy Winehouse hologram tour to be postponed
The tour, featuring a live band and hologram Winehouse, was due to start later this year.
A proposed Amy Winehouse hologram tour has been put "on hold," according to the company developing the project. The tour was announced in 2018 and was due to begin at an unspecified point later this year. However, on February 20, BASE Hologram stated that "unique challenges" have led them to postpone the tour until further notice.
Reached for comment by Billboard, BASE chairmn Brian Becker added: “Sometimes in developing this type of highly ambitious, state of the art hologram/augmented reality theatrical event we encounter some unique challenges and sensitivities that cause us to take a step back."
He continued: "Developing our productions is a cross between a Broadway show and a concert spectacle which requires creative engineering and that type of creativity does not necessarily follow a schedule. And that’s what happened with Amy Winehouse, we promised to celebrate her life in the most respectful way possible—as we did with Roy Orbison and Maria Callas—and to ensure we keep that promise we are putting the tour on hold while we plot out a creatively spectacular production fitting of her remarkable career.”
Winehouse passed away in 2011. Her family are currently producing an official biopic, due to begin filming later this year.
