March 31, 2019: Nipsey Hussle has died, according to NBC News and TMZ.
The Crenshaw rapper was reportedly shot multiple times outside of his clothing store Marathon Clothing Company in LA on Sunday. Two other people were hospitalized as a result of the shooting.
Remembering Nipsey Hussle
The last song on Crenshaw is a drumless piano number called "Crenshaw and Slauson (True Story)." It comes after 75 minutes of material - which themselves followed a run of three mixtapes in 12 months - and so it's jarring that, a few bars in, Nipsey Hussle is piecing out shards of autobiography you've never heard before.
Hussle, born Ermias Asghedom, and his business partner had recently purchased the plaza that houses the clothing store, according to Forbes. They were planning to revamp the complex into a six-story mixed use community.
“Before we was renting here, I was hustling in this parking lot,” he told the publication last month. “It's just always been a hub for local entrepreneurs.”
Following several mixtapes, Nipsey Hussle released his official debut album, Victory Lap, in 2018. The album garnered the rapper's first Grammy nomination (Best New Album). The rapper spoke with FADER about the unexpected nomination earlier this year.
He was 33 years old. Hussle is survived by a son with actress Lauren London and a daughter from a previous relationship.
The FADER has reached out to Nispey Hussle's publicist for comment and will update this post once more information becomes available.
