Billy Ray Cyrus has thrown his support behind Lil Nas X with a new remix of the country trap star's "Old Town Road." The song was controversially removed from Billboard's country songs chart last month after it was decided the track did not qualify under genre rules.
However, Billy Ray Cyrus was among the many who disagreed with the sentiment. On April 3 he tweeted as Lil Nas X and said "Only outlaws are outlawed."
.@LilNasX Been watching everything going on with OTR. When I got thrown off the charts, Waylon Jennings said to me “Take this as a compliment” means you’re doing something great! Only Outlaws are outlawed. Welcome to the club!

Speaking about the controversy, Lil Nas X recently said his song is "country trap. It’s not one, it’s not the other," and that it should be reflected in charts dedicated to both genres.
Now a new version of "Old Town Road" featuring Cyrus has appeared on streaming services. The elder artist tackles the song's third verse, singing of "diamond rings and Fendi sports bras/ Ridin' down Rodeo in my Maserati sports car."
