Governors Ball just can't seem to escape its weather curse: this year, like many other years, the festival was forced to shut down its third day due to inclement weather. You've probably seen what happened next through social media: a haphazard evacuation, an angry, unruly crowd, and general unfettered chaos. Much of the day's entertainment, including The Strokes, Charli XCX and Soccer Mommy had to be cancelled as a result of the weather.
Now, Gov Ball has issued a lengthy statement on the festival's evacuation and the ruckus it caused. In an email sent to newsletter subscribers, the festival's operations team explained that their weather service initially told the festival that inclement weather would be held off by a cold front, before receiving an update that warned storms would be hitting NYC after all. The statement also notes that all Sunday and 3-day ticketholders will be getting a refund. The festival will also be doing a Reddit AMA on Tuesday 4th June at 1pm EST. Read the full statement here.
