Octavian on the making of his high-flying “No Weakness” video
King Essie hovers above Paris in his latest Endorphins visual.
Midway through Octavian's latest project Endorphins (which dropped last month), the British rapper ups the stakes on a track called "No Weakness," a pre-breakup track that masterfully embraces a sense of unease. Today, King Essie's sharing a video for the song, a psychedelic Sacha Barbin-directed clip that sends him in a helicopter above Paris, where altitude and temptations run high. In tandem with its premiere, we caught up with Octavian, who told us a bit about the song and video's conception, and shared a number of behind the scenes photos from the shoot. Check it all out below:
"I was in a toxic relationship as I was writing the song. When I broke up with her, it was kinda premeditated. She’s actually featured on the track, my ex-girlfriend. I feel like it was an expression of how I was feeling at the moment. Coming off the back of “Bet” and “Feel Lit,” I wanted to show how diverse I am and how much I make different music. It’s not on purpose, it’s just natural switching.
The video was directed by Sacha Barbin, a very very talented director in Paris. We actually flew the helicopter over Paris, which isn’t really allowed… no one’s really done that. We got the Eiffel Tower in it, which was a major icon moment. I really loved the creation of this video, and I feel like the art direction and the idea and the concept of the video really corresponds with the song. It's about being in this life and not being with a girl, or not in a stable relationship. Even if you’re the rockstar in the helicopter, things can always get too much with the drugs and everything going overboard."
