President Donald Trump held a fascist rally last night in Greenville, North Carolina. Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Somali refugee and Minnesota congresswoman, was the target of a rant from Trump, during which the assembled crowd chanted "Send her back."
Not long after the incident began to make national news, Cardi B posted an Instagram picture of Rep. Omar, expressing solidarity with a lyric from Beyoncé's "Formation." The caption reads: “You know you that bitch when you cause all this conversation.” See the post below:
Rep. Omar initially responded to the hate on Twitter with a Maya Angelou quote. Later, she returned with a message from Toni Morrison: “The function, the very serious function of racism is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work." She followed up the quote with a statement of support for a bill increasing the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour.
It's the second time Cardi B has weighed in on American politics this week. On Tuesday, the rapper reiterated her support for 2020 presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders. "Seeing this country become a better place been really his passion for a long time not a new front for a campaign," she wrote on Twitter.
