Tyler, the Creator's latest album IGOR united fans and critics alike with its excellent production, and unprecedented vulnerability from the onetime Odd Future bandleader. That new project is the main focus of Tyler's new 52-minute interview with Beats 1's Zane Lowe for Apple Music, streaming above.
In the interview, Tyler explains how IGOR became his most successful culmination of a lifelong approach to music. "Since day one, I've always wanted to make the prettiest shit that's borderline boring, or the hardest fucking shit," Tyler says. "And I've been trying to mix those together since my first album."
Tyler also touches on his relationship to his music pre-Flower Boy, which saw him lean more heavily on his talents as a songwriter and composer. "If I started at Flower Boy, and then [IGOR], I would be a god," he says. "I didn't realize I should stop yelling on songs until I was 24."
