Chance The Rapper's debut album The Big Day finally dropped last Friday, and the reviews have been mixed, including The FADER's. Perhaps the most catchy criticism came from Twitch streamer Charlie Winmore — his 27-second parody of Chance's relentlessly sincere and pious persona went viral on Saturday. The repetition of "Ooh I love my wife" and "IGH," a piercing rendition of Chance's go-to adlib, are all too spot-on.
Winmore's creation has been stuck in my head all week, and I guess I'm not the only one. Whereisalex, a musician who inflect gospel into his popular SoundCloud tracks, posted a remix of Winmore's parody on Tuesday night. What was once a cheap-sounding and hilarious joke is transformed into a genuinely affecting snippet that really does sound like something Chance would have rapped over in his mixtape days. Maybe he'll take control of the meme and spit a remix over Whereisalex's creation? Check it out below.
