Khalid confirms details of El Paso benefit concert
Proceeds from the University of Texas date will go to the El Paso Shooting Victims’ Fund and the El Paso Community Foundation.
Khalid will perform at the University of Texas at El Paso's Don Haskins Center next month, with proceeds from the show going to support victims of the August 3 mass shooting in the city. The benefit concert will take place on September 1 in aid of the El Paso Shooting Victims’ Fund and the El Paso Community Foundation.
The prospect of a benefit concert was first raised by Khalid, who went to school in El Paso, in the immediate aftermath of the attack. Today, August 13, he confirmed details of the show. Twenty-nine people were killed by a gunman in a Wal-Mart in the attack.
“I have been rocked to the core by the horrific act of gun violence that came to El Paso, and by the continued acts of senseless violence that our country faces daily,” Khalid said in a statement. “I want to give back to my community of El Paso, the city of the 915, who has given so much to me. Please come out and let’s heal together through music while raising money to help those who need it.”
