Top Boy fans can celebrate today as the long-awaited third season of the London gangland drama arrives on Netflix. The cult show looked to be dead after it was axed by U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 in 2014. However, keen Anglophile Drake stepped in and revived the show, bringing it to Netflix in the process.
Ten new episodes of Top Boy, which has added British rappers Drake and Little Simz to its cast, are available to watch now. A soundtrack of songs inspired by the show has also been released today on Drake's OVO Sound label. Top Boy (A Selection of Music Inspired by the Series) features music from Dave, AJ Tracey, Popcaan, Little Simz, Fredo, and Headie One. Drake's "Behind Barz," a freestyle recorded for Link-Up TV in 2018, is also on the album, marking the first time that track has been available to stream.
A statement from Netflix confirms that "the new episodes pick up as Dushane (Ashley Walters) returns from exile to his home in London to reclaim his throne in the highly lucrative drug market. He teams up with Sully (grime MC Kano), his spiritual brother, partner and sometime rival who is also returning to the same streets after his own form of exile – prison – comes to an end. Awaiting them both is Jamie (Micheal Ward), the young, hungry and ruthless gang leader whose ambitions leave no place for Dushane and Sully."
