Playboi Carti's second studio album Whole Lotta Red has never had a set release date, but its production has been beset by leaks and an artist who, as he admitted in his FADER cover story, keeps recording and changing the tracklist. On Tuesday, Carti suggested the wait may soon be over, posting a photo with the caption "red incoming." See it above.
This isn't the first time in 2019 that Carti has implied and missed an imminent release date, though. At a concert in July, Carti told the crowd that he wanted to Whole Lotta Red in the next 60 days, and said the project would be featureless. "I ain't gon' lie. It feels like we worked too hard for this moment," he said of his desire to leave guest verses off the album.
Carti's career has suffered from persistent leaks. Over 20 unreleased songs have appeared online, with many showing up on streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. Soon after an unauthorized drop of his songs emerged on June 6, Carti took to Instagram and wrote "I hate leaks" in a Story.
UPDATE (October 16, 4:45 p.m.) Carti has posted again, this time with the caption "<48hours! locked in."
