Noël Wells may be known for her work on Saturday Night Live and Master of None, but now she is joining the world of folk singer-songwriting. Today The FADER premieres her new song and video, "Still Sleeping," where the actress-turned-songwriter puts on a sinister house show. Directed by Sam Fragoso, the sepia-toned living room setting finds Wells performing for an enchanted — and somewhat disconcerting — audience. Adorned with sleep masks and casual clothing, they ominously gaze at Wells, mesmerized by her simple acoustic guitar strumming and breathy lullabies until the camera pans and they disappear, suggesting she was dreaming all along.
"Still Sleeping," all white noise and Wells' hazy vocal delivery, is, as she describes it in an email, "an adult lullaby or fairy tale. It sounds sweet on the surface but there is a warning it's trying to convey about getting caught up in external games and not listening to this wiser and primal part of yourself, [which] if you never heed… you'll basically sleepwalk through life.”
Wells will be opening for Sam Fender at the Bowery Ballroom on October 17 and headlining the Rockwood Music Hall on October 18.
