Prince really didn’t like Ed Sheeran or Katy Perry, according to his memoir
The Beautiful Ones is out today.
Prince had strong opinions on Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran, according to the co-author of Prince's upcoming memoir The Beautiful Ones.
Dan Piepenbring revealed the wrinkles in Prince's taste in a profile at The Guardian. Prince was apparently a meticulous note-taker, and in one note he expressed his distaste for Perry and Sheeran's ubiquity on pop radio: “We need to tell them that they keep trying to ram Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran down our throats and we don’t like it no matter how many times they play it.”
Many of these notes, which include cartoons, diary-like entries, and much more, are included in The Beautiful Ones, which has been released today. Piepenbring was enlisted by Prince in 2016 to work on the memoir, and the two spent three months conducting interviews before Prince died.
Three years after Prince's death, Perry and Sheeran remain successful pop acts. Perry has been releasing new singles, most recently "Harleys in Hawaii," and has recently appealed a $2.78 million judgment over plagiarism claims levied by a Christian rapper over her hit "Dark Horse." Ed Sheeran's music has helped make him the U.K.'s richest man under 30.
