Jay-Z’s back catalog returns to Spotify
Just in time for his 50th birthday celebrations.
Jay-Z turns the big 5-0 today, December 4, and his entire discography has returned to Spotify. The back catalog, including classic albums such as The Blueprint and The Black Album, has been absent from the streaming service since April 2017.
No reason was given at the time for its removal, though the decision came months prior to Jay-Z releasing 4:44 exclusively via Tidal. A number of the rapper's albums returned to Apple Music earlier this year.
Spotify celebrated the news via social media early on Wednesday. Jay-Z has yet to comment. The FADER has reached out for more information.
Jay-Z's only new music of 2019 has come via an appearance on Beyonce's Lion King-affiliated album, The Gift. U.K. rapper Stormzy recently revealed he asked Jay Z to step down from a collaboration with himself and Ed Sheeran as he didn't feel the icon's presence was a good fit for the track.
