Adam Sandler-fronted film Uncut Gems gave indie film disrtibutor A24 its biggest box office haul this weekend, according to Variety.
The suspense thriller, directed by Josh and Benny Safdie, pulled in $18 million since it opened on Wednesday, breaking the $11 million record previously held by Midsommar. This officially makes it the highest-grossing film from the studio. The film stars Sandler, alongside Lakeith Stanfield, Kevin Garnett, and Idina Menzel, as a compulsive gambler attempting to get out of debt. It also features a cameo from The Weeknd playing himself on the verge of stardom. In the film, set in 2012, it works. Despite mixed reviews, it's been lauded by critics and Sandler has already nabbed a best actor win from the National Board of Review.
