Nicki Minaj has been quiet of late, not really sharing much in the way of life or career updates since the latest season of her Beats 1 show Queen Radio finished last year. But in a live Q&A at this evening’s Pollstar Live event, the rapper and singer gave some new updates on various aspects of her life, including her social media use, the Grammys, her retirement, and what fans can expect from her upcoming fifth record. Discussing her retirement, she stressed that her announcement that she was leaving music was one of the times where she “shouldn’t have tweeted,” and that she deleted all her social media from her phone afterwards as a kind of barrier to stop her from making such rash proclamations.
Later in the discussion, she gave some advice to emerging artists, telling them not to sweat the little stuff and to instead focus on a bigger picture. In addition, Minaj also mentioned that a new promo single will be released this week, ahead of the first official single from her fifth record; at the conclusion of the Q&A, a portion of the single played over the venue's speaker system. Watch footage of the Q&A, and the song preview, below.
