With the COVID-19 pandemic posing a serious threat to the foundations of our society, people have started to act up. Conservative pundits, a mere 10 days into self-isolation, are calling for working people to return to their jobs despite the fact that it might kill them and/or overburden an already struggling health system; Gal Gadot, Bono, and their famous pals are singing their songs of unity or togetherness or whatever for reasons that I can't quite grasp; old nü-metal bands are going on racist Twitter rants. They say that you know a person by the way they act in the most challenging times. We've learned plenty already.
It's heartening, then, to see pop icon Britney Spears respond to this unprecedented moment in modern history by calling for a general strike and the redistribution of wealth. On Instagram this morning, Britney re-upped a post from Mimi Zhu that espoused the sort of Marxist principles most pop stars would run a mile from.
Britney Spears is a socialist now. This is a good thing. Enjoy the good thing.
Update: In an earlier version of this article, Mimi Zhu's name was misspelled. We regret the error.
