Ambar Lucid questions her reality in “The Garden Song” video
The Dominican-Mexican-American artist goes down the rabbit hole.
At six years old, Ambar Lucid's father was deported to Mexico, and it wasn't until she was 18 that they would reunite briefly. That life-changing reunion was captured in her short doc Llegaron Las Flores. The impact of this period apart also greatly influenced her latest EP Garden of Lucid, including the final song, "The Garden Song."
Although there aren't many lyrics over the simple guitar lines, they convey her doubt and unwillingness to accept a status quo around her: "Of the greenery around us, I'll admit, I'm not so sure" and "What if all the blooming isn't truly what we know?" Director Thevideoboy also shows that contrast by having Lucid falling down a tunnel while her face is unfazed. In an email, she explained the significance of the video for her: "It represents the rebirth of my creativity and myself as an artist."
